Varapuja : An Important & Sacred Event In Wedding

Varapuja : When the groom’s Kashi yatra concludes and he arrives at the wedding hall, the bride’s family welcomes him with keys, drink bottles, and new clothes. At the Vididi (wedding venue), the bride’s family, who are already waiting, engage in a lively and joyful ceremony called “Keket Kolu.”

Varapuja & Arrangements

After making all the necessary arrangements such as providing soaps, pastes, buckets, clothes, and hot water, the bride’s family spreads a large carpet in the front hall and awaits the arrival of the groom and his family. The prospective mother-in-law, father-in-law, and other close relatives of the bride invite the groom’s family to wash their feet as they enter the premises. The groom, accompanied by his brother-in-law, performs this ritual of washing the feet, which is repeated two or three times.

The groom is then offered Panakam, a special traditional drink, which he tastes first, followed by the distribution of the drink to all the relatives present. Afterward, everyone is served coffee and snacks. Once the bathing is completed and everyone is ready, they are either taken for lunch or arrangements are made for a meal to be served at the venue.
