Lagna Pathrika Vivarana : An Important & Significant Element In Hindu Marriage

Lagna Pathrika Vivarana : Also known as the Lagna Patrika, is an important element in Hindu marriage rituals. It is a document or inscription that contains the details of the auspicious time (muhurta) and other relevant information related to the marriage ceremony. In the past, it was customary to write these details on the wall of the house using a mixture of turmeric and saffron, making it visible to all.

However, in the context you mentioned, the Lagna Pathrika is placed on a six-inch wide by twelve-inch long copper rod and immersed in water, typically in a copper vessel or an earthen vessel.

The Lagna Pathrika is then prayed to with the following invocation:

“Tvamasyantranam Brahmana Nirmitham Pura |
Bhava Bhavaya Dampatyoh Kalasadhana Varasam ||”

This prayer acknowledges the significance of the Lagna Pathrika as a sacred symbol and states that it was created by Lord Brahma himself. It emphasizes the importance of mutual love and harmony between the couple, wishing for their happiness, long life, and a smooth journey in their married life.
