Saree : In the enchanting realm of Telugu marriage traditions, a significant ritual unfolds within the first 16 days or within a month, or even within the auspicious window of the third month. During this propitious moment, a delightful gesture takes place as a saree is lovingly bestowed upon the bride by her parents.

In this cherished tradition, the parents of the bride prepare a thoughtful ensemble of offerings. They present the bride with 5 kilograms of Chalimidi, a delectable sweet treat, along with 1 kilogram of turmeric, 2 kilograms of Sunnipindi (fine flour), half a kilogram of saffron (Kumkum), half a kilogram of saffron, a strand of bananas, candy canes, combs, mirrors, and various other items to be distributed among family members and well-wishers.

It is customary for the in-laws’ family members to receive new clothes, including the washermen and their housemaids, symbolizing the spirit of togetherness and inclusivity.

Moreover, the bride herself is adorned with sarees, skirts, towels, blankets, steel utensils, a bindi box, decorative utensils, glasses, an assortment of silverware, and a heartfelt offering of cash. Each item embodies blessings and wishes for a prosperous and joyous journey ahead.

During the saree celebration, the bride is seated facing the east, and within the folds of the saree’s terminal (Kongu), a delightful assortment is placed, including Chalimidi, two pieces of the blouse, a small sum of money, a coconut, Turmeric, and saffron. Those who arrive to escort the bride from her mother-in-law’s house are also bestowed with new garments, a gesture that reflects warmth and hospitality.

Accompanying the bride is a cherished family member, forging a bond of support and companionship. The act of offering the saree carries profound meaning, showcasing the parents’ deep love and care for their daughter.
