Clapping Game : Oppulukuppa A popular game among Telugu girls. It can be played with either two or four girls, but it is easy to play with just two. The girls stand facing each other, holding each other’s right hand with their left hand and their left hand with their right hand. They stand firmly on their feet and lean back, stretching their arms and bending them obliquely. This game provides good exercise for the feet, knees, waist, and arms.

Clapping Game & Song Sung While Playing

While playing Oppulukuppa , the girls sing songs to add fun and rhythm to the game. Here are a few variations of the songs associated with Oppulukuppa:

“Oppulukuppa, oyyari bhama,
minapappu-menthi pindi,
Thaati bellam-tavveduneyyi,
guppedu tinte-Kulukuladi,
Gootlo rupayi-ne mogudu Sipayi.”

“Oppula Kuppa-Oyyari Bhama,
Sannabiyyam, Chaya Pappu,
Chinna Muvva-Sanna gaaju,
Kobbari koru, Chellapachu,
Rotlo Tavudu-Nee Mogudaedavadu?
Gootlo rupayi-ne mogudu Sipayi.”

“Oppulukuppa, Oiyaribhama!
Sannabiyyam,
Sanna gaaju,
Kobbari koru, Chellapachu,
Gootlo rupayi-ne mogudu Sipayi,
Rotlo Tavudu, Nee Mogudaedavadu?
Naduma katte an moota chitti,
dudu pulla duraav pulla,
choodakunda jaada teeyi,
oodakunda pulla teeyi.”

Some variations of the songs include “Kobbari chippalu-chilla pikkalu” or “Chennapatnam, cheruku mukka, nikomukka, nako mukka, Bhimudi patnam, bindela jodu, niko binde, nako binde, Kalipatnam, kasula jodu, niko kasu, nako kasu.” These songs are sung while the girls join their palms and walk around.

In addition to Oppulukuppa, girls also engage in other hand-holding activities, such as holding their fingernails and walking around while singing songs like

“Chippa chippa gollu-Singaraju gollu,

ma tata gollu-Mandava raallu,

chukkala chukkala gollu-Sundaramma gollu.”

They play happily, enjoying the game and the songs associated with it.
