Bommani Appagintha : After the wedding ceremony, there are various customs and rituals that take place, symbolizing the bond between the newly married couple and their families. One such custom involves the bridegroom’s sister.

The bridegroom’s sister is given a drop of turmeric, saffron, and new clothes mixed with tambulam (a mixture of betel nut, Betel leaf, and other ingredients). This is a way of honoring and acknowledging her role in the wedding.

Both the bride and groom are then dressed in new clothes as a symbol of starting their new life together.

Next, a wooden doll is placed in a meter mallu cloth, and it is held at one end by the bride and the other end by the groom. They swing the cloth with the doll together, signifying their unity and partnership.

In some traditions, water mixed with lime and turmeric is applied repeatedly on the thigh of the bridegroom’s brother, who is seated next to the bride. This ritual is performed to bless him and ensure his prosperity.

The groom’s family honors the brother by presenting him with new clothes. During this exchange, they may also inquire if he would like to receive a cow or a wedding gift box on behalf of the newly married couple. In response, the brother presents them with a wooden doll, symbolizing the promise of a belt and a milk cow.

In some cases, a silver doll may also be given along with the wooden doll, depending on the family’s capacity and traditions.

Finally, the newlyweds’ exchange names, further solidifying their relationship and commitment to each other. These post-wedding rituals and exchanges serve as a way to celebrate the union and strengthen the bonds between both families.
