Gampalo Vadhuvu : The beautifully woven bamboo gampa, adorned with vibrant yellow saffron, Andola grain, and rice, holds a significant role in Telugu customs. During the wedding ceremony, the bride is seated within the gampa, while her uncles lovingly carry her to the wedding hall. In this unique tradition, the uncle or his son holds the privilege of marrying the bride, and the marriage takes place with his consent. As a symbol of this agreement, the uncle himself brings the bride and performs the sacred ritual of Kanyadanam. It is during this moment that the groom presents the uncle with traditional attire, often a saree, as a gesture of honor.

The presence of a coconut holds profound symbolism, representing mental purity. Just as the coir within the coconut signifies inseparability, elders believe that this ceremony signifies the couple’s lifelong togetherness and blessings of fertility. This ceremony is also known as palagampa. In the sacred union, the groom is revered as Lord Vishnu, while the bride embodies the divine Goddess Lakshmi.

Following the Gauri Puja, the bride’s uncles carry her in a bamboo basket, considering her as the embodiment of Goddess Lakshmi. This act signifies the reverence and utmost care given to the bride, resembling the way Goddess Lakshmi herself would be carried. Furthermore, it is believed that this tradition originated from ancient times when the ground was rough and strewn with piercing stones, ensuring the bride’s safety and protection after the Gauri Puja.

Thus, the gampa holds deep cultural and symbolic significance, as it becomes a sacred vessel for the bride, symbolizing the divine presence and the union of the couple.
