Pottelu Pandemulu : A Traditional Sport For Strength & Depicting Fighting Spirit

Pottelu Pandemulu : Also Known As the Male goats’ competition, A traditional sport that showcases the strength and dominance of male goats. Unlike roosters or other animals, male goats are considered more robust and resilient. In this competition, the goats engage in head-to-head collisions, demonstrating their power and endurance.

Pottelu Pandemulu & Managers

Before the competition, the managers of the male goats prepare them by boosting their energy and determination. They may touch the goat’s head with their palm, gradually moving it away while saying “Dur Chip,” which serves as a signal for the goat to charge and hit their palm. This helps the goat get accustomed to the act of colliding.

To further strengthen the goats and prepare them for the competition, wooden objects are used in place of hands. The goats are trained to withstand hard blows and grazing. Once they are deemed ready, they participate in races during festivals.

In these races, the goats collide with each other head-to-head, displaying their bravery and fighting spirit. People from surrounding villages gather to witness these goat races and find entertainment in the competition. Goat races were once a part of the traditional entertainment traditions in the local culture.
