Karrabilla : Also known by various names like Goni Billa, Guti Billa, Billa Karra, Chillangodu, Kodimbilla, Chillagala, and Billangodu, is a popular game played with sticks and a small piece called a “billa.” Here are the rules and gameplay of Karrabilla
Equipment:
- Billa: A small stick about 4 inches long.
- Stick: A larger stick about two feet long.
Gameplay:
- A small “kancha” (socket) is dug into the ground, and the billa is placed on it.
- One player holds the stick and hits the billa, sending it flying.
- The other player(s) stand at a distance from the kancha, ready to catch the billa before it falls.
- If a player catches the billa successfully, the player who hit the billa is considered defeated.
- If the player fails to catch the billa, it is thrown back to the kancha from where it was placed.
- The distance between the fence and the kancha is measured using the stick. The measured distance is compared to the length of ten sticks, which is called a “lala.”
- The player who hit the billa strikes it three times with the stick and on the third strike, measures the distance from where the billa fell to the fence.
- The player has to estimate how many “lalas” the distance is. If the estimate is accurate, the player wins.
- If the distance is shorter than expected, all the losers have to hop on one leg and retrieve the billa from the fence.
- The game can be extended if the measured distance is longer than one stick length, and the player who hit the billa continues to hit and throw it away.
- Karrabilla is played in Varlakimidi and Barampuram areas. In the Krishna district, it is known as “Gilli Dandi” or “Godi Billa,” while in Uttara Andhra, it is called “Gulidanda.
